I'm called Little Dilettante
Dear Digital Dilettante
Though I could never tell why
But still I'm so dilatory
In social media purgatory
Stream of consciousness blogger am I
I've haikus for Mondays
And tankas for Tuesdays
From prompts kind people provide
I post them in mornings
To shake up my wake up
Then on with my daily survive

The Daily Dread
Yesterday
gleefully passing
The Grip to those who haven't
gained immunity
Whispers in my ear
Passing butterfly advice
Don't float, bee the sting
when in the grip of
an existential crisis
best to just exist
memories flood the zone
while I try to convince myself
I've immunity from the past
another day another koan
take haiku down from the shelf
tasty tanka breaks the fast
a shot of poetry gets me through
immune until the next days brew
curl, potion, robin, unicycle, and bombast.
With reckless bombast, Robin rides a motorized unicycle. Crashing into a bowl to join a birdie bathing bacchanal, which Robin hadn’t been invited to. A party where illicit potions were being served that would curl their little dirty birdy feet.
Either I know to many words, or Wordle just accepts to many of my shot in the dark word guesses as real words

Yesterday
Our reacquaintance
Stirred a hiraeth of my youth
Played together then
Reunited played again
In a very different way
Malicious glee felt
Ripped off Do Not Remove tags
Then I learned I could
no straight lines for me
like nature I want thick haze
on my cushy wave
Montrose trolley bus
Before the sun rises up
Fish off the jetty
Not any jetty
This was the Montrose horseshoe
Near the Nike base
Caught so many perch
Also some hefty salmon
But most times caught zip
snarky rude robin
chirped rejoinders about my
fishing earthworm
Horseshoe

Yesterday
evening news was a
soporific until it
became a non stop
death rattle of sanity
with fat man public farting
the first thing you need
is a propeller so you
can propel yourself
old timers swore that
The Patio theater was
pronounced The Pay Show
Laugh out loud as I
whet my rapier wit on
reality's edge

The Daily Dread
Yesterday
Arms hugging embrace
Nails rake trails across my back
Fait accompli flirt
With change
There is no magic dissolve
It's just one thing fading out
As another thing fades up
Simultaneously
Rather than consecutively
Something
Takes another's place
Becomes the thing
Less abrupt as cut
More contemplative than a wipe
brown sugar essence
viscous maple surple time
supple oatmeal bowl
The difference between
winners and losers. Winners
know how to palm cards
Or is it just the luck of the draw

Yesterday
Feel a finger
Trace the seam of existence
Savor the recede
I've tried to avoid
Getting or giving a scar
Failed on the twain
playing in the yard
a row of peony bushes
bees buzzing the buds
Don't burden my tender estate with this knowledge
Phrazez that Payzez
"I'm a two legged animal sweating in my dead mother's bed" The Antidote by Karen Russell
it's all well and good
to arrive, but I'm more of
a journey person
One of my favorite memories is helping my father clean out the cesspool which was located next to the peony bushes.

Urban Hiking
My favorite place is nowhere and everywhere. Simultuneously. From an early age walking out my front door into the night. No destination. No goal. Deciding which way to go for a stroll around my neighborhood. Then the whole city at large. City streets lit first by dim street lights. Then by mercury vapor lamps. Eventually they even lit the alleyways. Shame , because alley’s had the best shadows. You could really tell a neighborhood by its alley. Just down the alley from home there was a cement and broken glass garden with windmills and bridges and houses and walls along the black cinder alleyway. A well kept garden. Cement and glass carefully smoothed. I had to go back there in the daytime just to take in the full wonder and be sure it was not a midnight phantasm. It was there. The glorious miles I covered as I branched out. The hours filled in silent reverie exploring the streets and alleys of my urban habitat. People sitting on their porches on hot summer nights. Some sleeping there too. I would quietly wander. No mischief. No malintent. Just Urban Hiking. Even through snow storms I’d hike on. These days it’s day hiking. Different insights. Shorter durations and milage. Grateful to be able to enjoy my nowheres and everywheres again after decades of that pleasure was taken away with every other step. I breathe in inspiration and breathe out expiration on my strolls through a wonderland that holds both urban, lake, and bucolic residential views whenever I can. Because I am the luckiest man in the world

The Daily Dread
Yesterday
chickens and the cost
of empire come home to
roost in the wreckage
malignant pallor
of festering hate wafts o'er
our once fertile plains
A site of lush warmth
Became a trigger sending
A chill up my spine
False
Evidence
Appearing
Real
Start small
Double down
Repeat early
Repeat often
Lie like a rug
Buy allegiance
Bourne of panic
False alarm
Fear solidifies
Then deliver the
Coup de grace
In the future our garbage will be their treasure
Our valuables will be the be bane of their existence.
