The Daily Dread
Yesterday
Future blends with past
Appreciate the blurring
Moment by moment
grounded our vessel
on a shopping mall reef of
excess consumption
price of admission
cost to survive belies the
myth of innocence
morning stare greeting
when I awoke you were there
turned into a glare
starts with tobacco
then weed, banana, eggplant
up in smoke blank stare
Quit when I told self
No need to inhale smoke
From ignited leaves
well placed tourniquet
may staunch national bleeding
but an infusion
of decency will refill
depleted levels of pride
A very empty parking lot outside a very empty shopping mall

My unreasonable expectations have often led me down the path of irrational exuberance.

Decency….as in ‘we have lost all sense of…’ I kind of remember that word.
Even when it was mostly aspirational, it was something good to strive for.☹
